2. Record every lecture or class that an athlete misses during the basketball season and for March Madness, and, follow the model of M.I.T.’s OpenCourseWare, post those videos online.

3. Program the iPad for 70% Education and 30% Games / Music

Sal Khan and his team at Khan Academy have a class — or roughly 3,000 classes — you might want to take.

Okay, maybe you don’t want to take all of those classes, which could take years to get through (and not all of us need or want to prep for the GMAT). But Khan Academy’s YouTube video class database, which launched on the iPad on Sunday, gives any individual with a computer and sufficient Internet connection the opportunity to receive instruction on a variety of subjects, assuming they find the format and content of the classes palatable. read more

Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent cancer, and an estimated 143,460 cases are expected to occur this year in the U.S. (American Cancer Society, 2012). Despite these numbers, colorectal cancer is one of the most detectable, and if found early, most treatable forms of cancer.

Many people delay colorectal cancer screening because of the potential for embarrassment and/or fear of discomfort associated with examinations. Other barriers to timely screening are lack of knowledge about screening tests among patients and lack of healthcare professional recommendation.

Nurses can affect the public’s awareness and willingness to use screening measures that can detect colorectal cancers early, increasing the opportunity for cure and survival. “Every Nurse Makes a Difference: Preventing Colorectal Cancer” is a new online course providing nurses with 1.0 contact hours of accredited CE at http://www.noep.org. The project is made possible by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

NASA has released a new educational game with an air traffic control theme for Apple iPhone and iPad devices. The Sector 33 application is designed to challenge students in middle school and above to use basic math and problem-solving skills.

An Android version of the app is in development and will be made available in the Android Marketplace in the coming months.

In the game the player acts as an air traffic controller guiding airplanes through a sector of airspace spanning Nevada and California. The player can adjust the planes’ path and speed to safely reach certain spots in the sky in the fastest time possible while keeping the planes a specific distance from each other.
